Review - Benromach Organic

The Organic is from the small independently owned distillery of Benromach. When it was originally launched back in 2006, it was the first single malt on the market to be fully certified as organic by the UK Soil Association.  The whisky continues to meet their rigorous standards regarding the growing of ingredients (organic barley, local spring water and yeast), the whisky making process and the maturation in untreated virgin American oak casks.  Benromach is the real pioneer of organic Scotch whisky, having started production around the millenium.

Review - Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky

Bain's Cape Mountain is a single grain whisky that is produced at the James Sedgwick Distillery in South Africa.  It is named after a pioneering Scotsman engineer named Andrew Geddes Bain.  In the 1850s he was responsible for designing and building the Bainskloof Pass, which cuts through the mountains near to the distillery. The whisky is made using only South African grain and was the first ever South African single grain whisky to be released.  It was first released in 2009 and has since racked up a large amount of awards from competitions across the globe.

Review - Springbank 12 years old Single Cask Port Pipe

This new Scotch single malt whisky from the Springbank distillery is so new that it has not actually been bottled as we write this post.  This is due to happen on 20th April 2015.  This whisky is a from a specially selected single cask and will be exclusive to the UK market.  We were fortunate enough to taste a preview sample, along with other visitors, at the recent Midlands Whisky Festival in Stourbridge.  The spirit was distilled in April 2003 and then filled to a ex-Port pipe cask.  The result after 12 years of maturation will yield just 696 bottles and these will have a cask strength of 58.3% ABV.
