Review - Ardbeg Perpetuum

The annual release for Ardbeg Day at the Islay Festival always creates a big stir amongst the whisky community each year. This year's bottling is named Perpetuum, which means 'forever' or 'ongoing' in Latin, and kicks off the distillery's 200th anniversary celebrations.  The Perpetuum has been created by Dr. Bill Lumsden and he has taken inspiration from the different styles of Ardbeg that have been made over the past two centuries.  The final whisky contains a mix of different ages and casks, including a small amount of the oldest Ardbeg malt currently available.

Review - Ledaig 42 years old Dùsgadh

This new whisky is the oldest ever bottling of the Ledaig single malt from the Tobermory distillery.  Ledaig (pronounced lay-chuck) is the name given to its smoky/peaty spirit and it is only produced for approximately four months each year.  For the rest of the year, the regular non-peaty Tobermory spirit is made.  This new 42 years old is named Dùsgadh (which translates as 'awakening' from Gaelic) and the spirit was distilled and casked in 1972.  Older versions of Ledaig are rare as Tobermory was closed for much of the late 1970s, 80s and early 90s.

Review - Glenmorangie Dornoch

The Dornoch is a single malt from the famous north Highland distillery of Glenmorangie and is exclusive to the travel retail sector.  It has been designed by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling & Whisky Creation, and combines whisky matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and ex-Amontillado sherry casks.  The name refers to the distillery's location on the banks of the Dornoch Firth, a large sea inlet and estuary.  Glenmorangie have partnered with the Marine Conservation Society for this release to assist with preservation of the Firth.

Review - Crested Ten

The Crested Ten is a blended whiskey in the Jameson range.  It enjoys a cult status as it is highly regarded but with a relatively small distribution.  Crested Ten has a higher amount of single pot still whiskey in the blend (this is rumoured to be about 60%) compared to most other Jameson expressions.  The other 40% is made up of Irish single grain whiskey.  These are aged longer than the regular Jameson blend and have a higher proportion of ex-sherry cask matured whiskey included.

Review - Hedonism Quindecimus

The multi award-winning blending company of Compass Box are kicking off their 15th anniversary celebrations with this special limited edition whisky that reinvents an old favourite. The Hedonism Quindecimus recreates the original Hedonism that was Compass Box's first whisky to market back in 2000. The Quindecimus expression blends together single grain whiskies of varying ages (said to be between 20-32 years old) from five different distilleries and has been created by Compass Box founder John Glaser. All have been matured in American oak casks.
